REASON FOR LOSS:

Started from Amsterdam - Schipol at 22.07 hrs to attack shipping between Great Yarmouth and Flamborough Head. This aircraft flew into the face of a cliff during bad weather and was completely smashed, although there was no explosion or fire. Markings: E in red. Airframe made by Henschal FW. Engines: Jumo 211 G-1, the starboard engine plate showed MZK 211-G1/1286. Armament: the remains of three MG 15 found, along with a number of ammo drums. Two 500 kg and two 250 kg bombs were found, all fitted with No. 38 fuses. It is interested to note that this was the third Ju 88 with the markings M2 which crashed on the night of the 9/10th July, 41, within a few hours of each other. They all crashed within a stretch of 20 miles of coast, all three either hit the cliff or the hillside near the coast. Source: A.I.(g) Report No.97 Report 5/80 (NA).
