REASON FOR LOSS:
Aircraft attacked by a Spitfire, the engine caught fire and the pilot bailed out immediately. The aircraft crashed and was completely destroyed by fire. The pilot was extremely aggressive and stubborn and would give away absolutely no information. He wore the Iron Cross 2nd Class ribbon. This incident was witnessed by Winston Churchill during a tour of inspection of Dover Castle and the crash site was visited by him shortly afterwards. Churchill picked up a cartridge case as a souvenir
